Preschool Science:

Below is an outline of our science curriculum for preschoolers:

• The seasons and weather

• Sorting things into groups such as living/nonliving and plant/animal

• Systems and organs in the human body

• Identifying, classifying, and sorting types of animals

• How to care for the classroom plants and animals

• Sequencing using the life cycles of animals

• Puzzles and books on plants, animals and minerals

• Dinosaurs

• The Solar System

• Gardening

Our Science curriculum aims to feed the child's natural curiosity about the world around them and is closely tied with our Geography and Cultural Studies curriculum. Young children are fascinated by the phenomena they encounter in the natural world. Much of our science curriculum in our preschool classrooms focuses on the child's natural interest in the world around them: the seasons, weather, plants, animals, and the human body.

Simple science experiments are also presented to our preschoolers to introduce the children to cause and effect and the scientific method.

Kindergarten and Summer Camp Science:

Our older students are developing their reasoning skills and are able to think about science and the natural world more abstractly. Our Kindergarten and Summer Camp curriculum for science includes many of the topics above, along with the following:

• Formal scientific experiments

• Predicting and graphing results

• Food chains

• Identifying parts of plants and animals

• Adaptation

• Nutrition and physical education

• The states of matter

• Simple machines
